Creating a healthier pecan pie
Giving your traditional pecan pie a healthy spin doesn’t mean compromising the flavors. Here’s how: reduce the sugar in the filling and replace the corn syrup with pure maple syrup, a natural sweetener.
For the crust, opt for whole wheat pastry flour instead of white, or try a crustless version. Add an additional layer of nutrition by topping the pie with a generous sprinkle of flax or chia seeds.
Storing your pecan pie
Once your delicious pecan pie cools down, it can be stored at room temperature, preferably under a pie dome, for up to 2 days.
For extended storage, refrigerate the pie. It can stay fresh in the fridge for up to 4 days when covered properly.
If you wish to freeze it for later indulgence, make sure it is well wrapped and it could last for up to two months.
Perfect pairings for pecan pie
Your wonderful pecan pie pairs beautifully with several sides and drinks. For an unforgettable serving, complement it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
A hearty cup of coffee or a glass of dessert wine, like a Sauternes or other sweet wine, makes a perfect drink accompaniment.
If you prefer tea, robust black tea or delicate white tea pair nicely with the sweet and nutty pie.
