Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large pan over medium heat (approximately 180°C/356°F).
  2. Add the onion, garlic, carrots, and celery to the pan. Sauté until the vegetables are soft, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the minced beef to the pan. Crumble the meat with a spoon and cook until it is browned and cooked through.
  4. Stir in the canned tomatoes, tomato paste, and red wine. Add the oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Let the mixture come to a gentle simmer.
  5. Lower the heat (approximately 120°C/250°F) and let the sauce cook for at least 30 minutes. The longer it cooks, the tastier it will be.
  6. While the sauce is simmering, prepare the spaghetti according to the package instructions.
  7. Drain the spaghetti well and divide it among four plates. Ladle a generous amount of the Bolognese sauce over each serving.
  8. Garnish with a sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese and serve immediately. Enjoy your homemade Spaghetti Bolognese!

Making a healthier Spaghetti Bolognese

Spaghetti Bolognese can become a delicious wholesome meal with a few easy ingredient swaps. To create a healthier version, replace classic ground beef with lean turkey or even a veggie substitute.

Incorporate more vegetables into the sauce: grated carrots, zucchini, and bell peppers barely change the texture, but add a new depth of flavor as well as vitamins.

Using a whole-grain spaghetti instead of the usual white pasta will add fiber, making you fuller for longer.

Properly storing your Spaghetti Bolognese

Proper storage ensures your Spaghetti Bolognese remains fresh and delicious. Once prepared, the Spaghetti Bolognese should be cooled and refrigerated in an airtight container within two hours.

It will last for up to 3-4 days in the fridge. To extend its life, you can freeze it – it will be good for up to three months.

Whenever needed, just defrost in the refrigerator until it’s ready to reheat.

Serving suggestions for Spaghetti Bolognese

A fresh green salad with a simple oil and vinegar dressing pairs perfectly with Spaghetti Bolognese to balance the hearty, rich Bolognese sauce.

If you enjoy bread, a slice of garlic bread can hold up against the robust flavors in this dish.

For drinks, a glass of medium-bodied red wine such as a Merlot or a Chianti pairs well with the tomato-based Bolognese.

For children or those preferring non-alcoholic options, a refreshing iced tea or a glass of sparkling water with a slice of lemon would be excellent choices.
