"My studio in San Francisco is located amongst decaying buildings on an abandoned naval shipyard, surrounded on three sides by the bay. I began photo documenting the urban landscape around me and making representational paintings based on my photographs. The structure and problem solving of realism satisfies an existential need. I also draw inspiration from the quiet beauty of Venetian Renaissance masters – Bellini, Titian and Giorgione. In my latest body of work, I focus on Seattle. Like Venice and San Francisco, Seattle is surrounded by water and has beautiful light. By combining my love of realism, cityscapes and Venetian styles, my paintings aim to capture the spirit of Seattle." -Randy Beckelheimer
