All art is metaphor…especially now.

The artist deals in general with what cannot be said in words yet more and more we see verbiage in the visual arts not only as subject matter but as the only images in the work. Words can be used paradoxically because they, along with a literal meaning, have a symbolic or metaphoric value.

Due to a condition I have called synesthesia, letters, numbers, and words also have colors, sounds, and other anthropomorphic traits. A sentence can be like a chord or harmonic sequence; its meaning may be understood in many ways. Meaning is subjective. Letters, numbers, words, phrases compose a visual lexicon, interpreted by each individual through their own unique filter, informed by contemporary culture. The truth is in the viewer.
